ITR Correction

If you have made an error or omitted any information in your income tax return, you can rectify it by filing an income tax return correction or "ITR correction". ITR correction is a process through which you can make changes to your income tax return after it has been filed.

To file an ITR correction, you need to log in to the Income Tax Department's e-filing portal using your credentials. Once logged in, you can select the relevant assessment year and the ITR form that you want to correct. You can then make the necessary changes to the return by editing the fields that need correction.

It is important to note that you can only make corrections to certain fields, such as personal details, income details, tax details, deductions claimed, etc. You cannot make changes to the income tax form type or the assessment year.

After making the necessary corrections, you need to re-validate the return using either Aadhaar OTP, net banking, or EVC. Once the return is re-validated, the updated return is considered as the final return filed.

It is important to ensure that the corrections made are accurate and reflect the correct information. Any incorrect or false information could attract penalties or legal action by the Income Tax Department.

Additionally, ITR corrections can only be filed for a limited period of time after the original return has been filed. The deadline for filing ITR corrections is usually within a year from the end of the relevant assessment year. Therefore, it is important to rectify any errors or omissions as soon as possible to avoid missing the deadline.
