GST (Nil) Monthly Return Filing Regular Schemes

Under the Goods and Services Tax (GST) system in India, taxpayers registered under the Regular Scheme are required to file monthly GST returns. The GST return filing process involves reporting the details of the supplies made and received, and the payment of GST to the government.

A GST (Nil) monthly return filing under the Regular Scheme refers to the process of filing a monthly GST return when there are no transactions to report. If a taxpayer does not have any taxable supplies or has not made any purchases during a given tax period, they are still required to file a Nil GST return.

The due date for filing GST returns under the Regular Scheme is the 20th of each month for the previous month's transactions. For example, the GST return for the month of March is due on April 20th. A Nil GST return can be filed on the GST portal by following these steps:

Log in to the GST portal using valid credentials.

Click on the 'Services' tab and select 'Returns Dashboard.'

Select the financial year and the tax period for which the return needs to be filed.

Click on the 'Prepare Online' button and select the GST return form (GSTR-3B) for the selected tax period.

On the GSTR-3B form, enter the necessary details such as GSTIN, legal name, and details of inward and outward supplies.

In the 'Tax payable' section, enter '0' as the tax amount, as there are no transactions to report.

Click on the 'Preview' button to review the details entered, and then click on the 'Submit' button.

After submission, click on the 'File Return' button to complete the process.

By filing a Nil GST return on time, taxpayers can avoid any late filing fees or penalties. It is important to note that the GST compliance requirements and procedures may change over time, and taxpayers should stay up-to-date with the latest regulations to avoid any non-compliance issues.
